Pyramid Arts Centre is delighted to host the debut solo exhibition from Christian Monaghan, aka Eaten Alive Illustrations.
“I am an artist and musician from Warrington. Drawing has been an obsessive habit of mine from a very early age, all things cartoonish caught my attention, and still do. I studied art and design in high school, college, university, through to now as a professional illustrator and animator. It’s hard to imagine putting my energy into something that isn’t creative, it’s central to who I am as a person. Among other things, I take inspiration from The Simpsons, Adventure Time, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Robert Crumb, 60s Psychedelia and, in a more general sense, spending time appreciating the complex beauty of nature.
This collection is an eclectic mix of some of my more recent physical pieces. Some being created specifically for this exhibition. I work digitally most of the time, so it always seems less ephemeral and more important when I put pen to paper or brush to canvas. Music is also a huge part of my life, the things I listen to definitely shape the way I create art, becoming an animator has helped me understand the relationship between sound and image. There often isn’t a big, complicated message behind my work, I just want to create a general mood or feeling, and people can fill in the blanks, if they so desire.”
